On 10-11 April 2018, Prof. Hu Dekun, senior professor of WHU’s humanity and sociology faculty, Dean of the Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies (CIBOS)and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights, along with lecturer Fang Yuanyuan were invited to attend South China Sea-themed Sub-Forum of Boao Forum of Asia 2018 Annual Conference. Prof. Hu Dekun hosted the panel on “‘regional security’, ‘21st Century Maritime Silk Road’, ‘Pan-south China sea cooperation’” and had extensive discussions with experts at the meeting on relevant topics.
It is reported that nearly one hundred of experts and scholars from more than ten countries and regions in the South China Sea area attended this sub-forum. The forum is divided into two sessions: closed-door meeting and open meeting. The open meeting was chaired by Fu Ying, Chief Expert of National Global Strategic Think Tank, China Academy of Social Science, and Li Jun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hainan provincial committee, attended the meeting. Yi Xianliang, Director-general of The Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Wu Shicun, President of National Institute for South China Sea Studies and China-Southeast Asia Research Center on the South China Sea; Jusuf Wanandi, Co-founder of Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS); Zheng Yongnian, Director of East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore; Oh Ei Sun, senior consultant for international affairs of Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute, former political secretary of Malaysian Prime Minister;Paul D.Gewirtz, Director of The China Law Center, Yale University; and many other domestic and foreign renowned scholars who have been working in the fields of international relations, international law, sea-related affairs and regional economic cooperation for a long time delivered speeches on the meeting.
