The 3rd PhD student forum on “Boundary and Ocean Studies” was successfully held by CIBOS

On September 21, the 3rd PhD student forum on “Boundary and Ocean Studies” was opened at Wuhan University. The forum invited doctoral students from universities such as the University of Tokyo, Nankai University, China University of Political Science and Law, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, China Foreign Affairs University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Dalian Maritime University and many other universities and research institutions around the world, to take discussions on “Silk Road Economic Belt and Innovation Mode of Land Boundary Management”, “21st Century Maritime Silk Road and International Ocean Governance and Cooperation”, “New International Order of Post-war and Boundary and Ocean Issue”, "Polar Governance and International Cooperation" and other related topics.


 


The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Professor Guan Peifeng, Assistant Dean of Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies(CIBOS). Professor Kong Lingjie, Deputy Dean of CIBOS, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Prof. Kong emphasized three points in his speech. First, the 3rd PhD student forum on “Boundary and Ocean Studies” and the 4th Annual International Symposium on Boundary and Ocean Studies are held in collaboration, thus students can have the opportunity to work with experts and scholars from all over the world and share the academic feast; second, the papers submitted by the doctoral students cover a wide range of topics, the topics are novel and keep up to current events, the research field include both land and sea, and interdisciplinary research has been done in the perspective of law, history, philology, economics; last, he stressed that studying for a doctoral degree is a very important stage on the road to research, he hoped that this session of the students could build a deeper academic friendship, and will have the opportunity to jointly cultivate in the field of boundary and ocean studies.

 Professor Li Renzhen, Professor Zeng Zengjun, Associate Professor Huang Wei, Associate Professor Lei Wei, Associate Professor Jiang Xiaoyi, and Zhang Fan, Hu Jie, Ye Zhengguo, Zhang Cheng, Wang Jingchao, Zhao Ningning and Xu Guangyu presided over the forum and reviewed doctoral thesis respectively. More than 50 doctoral students from more than 20 universities at home and abroad submitted thesis, and 22 students among them gave speeches at the forum. Finally, after the selection of the expert group, Xu Rui and other four doctoral students of the Latin American Research Center of Nankai University won the first prize, 7 doctoral students including Yun Yulong from the School of Political Science and Public Administration Wuhan University won the second prize, and 11 doctoral students including Wang Chenguang from the Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies won the third prize.
