The opening ceremony of 2018 Boundary Affairs & Surveying and Mapping Training Program among neighboring countries was held at lecture hall of CIBOS on October 22nd. The course was hosted by the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized by CIBOS. Zhou Jian, deputy of the MFA Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs, and Li Fei, vice president of Wuhan University, attended the opening ceremony hosted by Kong Lingjie, deputy dean of the CIBOS. And 28 participants from 13 neighboring countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, North Korea, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam participated.

 “This year is 40th anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening up. China is willing to closely integrate its own development with the development of neighboring countries and share more fruits of development to the neighboring countries.” Zhou Jian pointed out in his speech that the use of modern information technology makes border management more professional and precise. It is the third time that China has held training course on border mapping technology. Technology training have established an atmosphere of friendly exchanges and mutual visits between China and neighboring countries, made the border management and development cooperation an important part of pragmatic cooperation between China and neighboring countries, and built a bridge of knowledge for China's reciprocal cooperation with neighboring countries. Meanwhile, this series of training courses also plays a positive role in promoting the “Belt and Road” initiative and building of a Community of Shared Future for Mankind.

Li Fei gave warmly welcome to the students from neighboring countries with the quotation of Confucius’ famous words. “Wuhan University, having organized three training courses so far, with rich teaching and training experience, will provide high-level technical and theoretical training for all students. The border affairs and mapping technology training courses reflect the major country diplomacy principle, ‘amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness’ in new era”. Li Fei believed that strengthening communication and exchanges between China and its neighboring neighbors will promote the understanding of neighboring countries on China and play an important role in promoting the building of harmonious and stable international relations.

It is reported that the training course lasts for 2 weeks, including the lecture on “land and ocean demarcation measurement technology”, “Application of geographic information system in national border management”, “international border affairs and border system management”, and “One Belt and One Road Cooperation” and so on, with aim of strengthening exchanges between China and neighboring countries in border mapping and border affairs management, promoting the common development of surveying and mapping geographic information technology in China and neighboring countries, providing geographic information for infrastructure Connectivity, and supporting the construction of the “Belt and Road”. In addition to studying and training in Wuhan, the students will also go to Yunnan for a field trip in the border regions between China and Laos.
