Journal of Boundary and Ocean Studies (JBOS) is the first multidisciplinary peer-reviewed academic journal that specializes in national boundary and ocean studies. Under the sponsorship of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights and Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies, JBOS is published bimonthly.

Aims and Scope

JBOS aims to provide a platform for experts, scholars, government officials and policymakers to discuss theoretical and practical issues related to boundaries and oceans. JBOS encourages researches on the following topics:

National maritime strategy and boundary & ocean related diplomacy

China’s relationship with its neighboring countries

China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and China’s cooperation with its neighboring countries

Settlement of maritime disputes and international law

Maritime rights and maritime cooperation

World War II, post-war international order and territorial & maritime disputes

The archival and historical studies on Diaoyu Islands & Spratly Islands

The history and current status of China’s territories

Boundary disputes and trans-boundary cooperation

Management of trans-boundary rivers, trans-boundary water disputes and cooperation

The governance and cooperation in polar regions

The application of boundary and oceanic information and technology

 

Submission Guidelines

The editors welcome submissions of original research. JBOS does not accept papers that have been published elsewhere or that is under submission to any other publisher. The journal takes instances of plagiarism very seriously.

JBOS welcomes submissions in various forms, such as research articles, review articles, case studies, book reviews and conference proceedings.

All substantial articles are sent anonymously to external referees. The author(s) will be responded within two months. Once their articles are published, the author(s) will be provided remunerations and sample issues.  

The journal accepts manuscripts in Chinese, English and other languages. JBOS only publishes Chinese translations of the manuscripts in languages other than Chinese and English. The journal reserves the right to make necessary editorial amendments.

Papers should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words in length, including quotations and footnotes. Manuscript in English should follow the Chicago style.
