Formerly Legal Adviser to the Ministry of State for Legal Affairs, Government of Bahrain, Professor Kaiyan Homi Kaikobad is currently Professor of International Law and Director of Research at
Professor Kaikobad has also written on the law of the United Nations, with particular reference to the use of armed force and the powers of the Security Council. His contribution to the areas of international adjudication and arbitration has been significant, having written a monograph on this aspect of the law, namely the powers and functions of the International Court of Justice with special reference to the notion of judicial review (Kluwer Law, 2000).
In the context of current affairs, Professor Kaikobad has covered a wide range of legal issues. This includes legal analyses of the Gulf conflicts of 1980-88 and 1990-91, the law of belligerent military occupation, international terrorism, crimes against international peace and security and the institutional law of international tribunals.
He has given lectures, talks and read papers at various conferences, universities and institutes at home and abroad, including the Universities of London, Manchester, Nottingham, Berlin, Germany, Groningen, The Netherlands, Incheon and Seoul, Korea, the Hersch Lauterpacht Research Institute at Cambridge University, the Asser Institute and the Hague Institute of the Internationalisation of Law, Harvard Law School, the Centre for Maritime Policy at the University of Wollongong, Australia and the University of Milan, Italy and Wuhan University, China.
A member of the Pakistan High Court Bar, Professor Kaikobad has been consulted by a number of governmental entities and professional societies for advice on various issues of international law. Professor Kaikobad is on the editorial board of two journals of international law and is a co-editor of a series on international criminal law and justice (Hart Publishing).
